Book Publishing Sees Strong First Half of 2021

A recent Publishers Weekly article highlighted results from the trade book publishing segment, reporting that the four publicly traded major publishers posted strong increases in the first half of 2021.

According to the article, HarperCollins’s reported that sales in first half of calendar 2021 were up 20% over the same period in 2020, while Penguin Random House reported that profits soared 55.1% in the first half of 2021 over the first half of 2020. Publishers Weekly further reported that Lagardère’s publishing group sales increased 16.4% in the first half of 2021 over the same period in 2020 with revenue at Hachette Book Group rising 14.8%.

Sales at Simon & Schuster also rose over the first six months of the year, ticking up 9.2% when compared to the first half of 2020.
